Hawaii Island Landscape Association is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2019 HILA Vic Paulson scholarship is Kiyono McDonald.
Kiyono graduated from Kealakehe High School in 2019 as valedictorian. She has a remarkable record as a student and a community member. She earned many academic awards throughout high school, excelling in the STEM programs. She also spent many hours serving her community through numerous non profit groups.
She is described by her mentors as generous, astute, gifted in the realms of creativity and design, and even humorous. And she’s a gifted musician.
She is enrolled at Georgia Institute of Technology and is pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering. She tells us her hope is to implement soil science, biology and engineering principles to engage in research and conservation efforts and environmental management on her return to her loved island home. We are proud and fortunate to have Kiyono as a part of our Hawaii Island community, and wish her all the successes she deserves.
